Q: I already volunteer. Does that count?

A: Yes, you are able to take one day of Time to Shine leave to continue the volunteering you are already doing.

Q: I'm a manager. What do I do if I don't think my team member's request satisfies the criteria?

A: You can refer the request to the CVCL team for advice and guidance.

Q: My organisation is not registered on the website

A: You need to ask the organisation to register before you can volunteer there. The registration process will ensure they meet the University's health and safety regulations.

Q: Can a team volunteer?

A: Yes, you can volunteer as a group and may need to arrange in advance with the organisation. The CVCL team can support this.

Q: Do I have to participate? Is it compulsory for staff?

A: No.

Q: Does my organisation have to register?

A: Yes, in order to ensure the safety of staff all organisations need to meet the University's health and safety guidelines. Asking the organisation to register confirms that these guidelines have been met and the safety of staff will not have been compromised.

Q: Do I have to register?

A: Yes, your registration will allow UCLan to showcase the amazing contribution staff make to the community.

Q: What do I do if my volunteering day falls on a weekend?

A: If your volunteering day falls on a weekend, your day of leave can be taken during the following week. You will need to ensure this has been agreed with your manager in advance.

Q: Can I split my day into 2 halves?

A: Yes, you can take your day of volunteering in 2 halves.

Q: What do I do if my volunteering is to take place in the evening?

A: If your volunteering placement is to take place during an evening you will be eligible for half a day of leave.

Q: Can I take more than one day of leave?

A: No, the University will only approve one day of leave for volunteering.
